Peter A. Schad, PhD, is currently the Director of Molecular Epidemiology Genomics Environment and Health at RTI. He has more than 20 years of experience in the areas of biotechnology including clinical trials, genomics, molecular biology, infectious disease, bioinformatics, medical informatics, genetics, oncology, target validation, biomarker discovery, and in silico biology.
Prior to joining RTI, Schad served as the Director of Medical Informatics at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey providing strategic planning to clinical, medical informatics, and biomarker discovery in prostate cancer. Previously, he provided strategy and thought management as the Health Informatics Coordinator for the National Cancer Institute in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences.
Schad served as the Principal Investigator of the Genome Sequence Database, which was one of four human genome databases at that time. As a Chief Scientific Officer, he developed the Research and information technology strategy and developed a multi-team infrastructure that classified a unique gene inventory into druggable targets. He was also responsible for implementing a computational biology program as a discovery tool for genomics, proteomics, and biomarker validation. He has applied Advanced Mathematical Models (AMMs) to analyze and identify unique data sets within large and complex biological data.
Schad is currently the Chairman of the Bioinformatics Board for the PhRMA Foundation and elected Board member of the Genetics and Environmental Mutagenesis Society. He also currently serves on several ad hoc National Institutes of Health study sections for NCI, NIAID, NIDCR, NIRR and several Scientific Advisory Boards.
