Overview

Over the last two years, the Markle Foundation has primarily focused its work in two areas where information technology (IT) holds great promise to benefit our society: Health and National Security.

Health
The Markle Foundation's Health program is dedicated to accelerating the rate at which information technology enables consumers and the health system that supports them to improve health and healthcare. (more)

The Markle Foundation's National Security program is focused on how best to mobilize information and information technology to improve national security while protecting established civil liberties. (more)

The focus on Health and National Security grew out of a broader undertaking, initiated in 1999 as IT and Internet policy were emerging rapidly, to stimulate the participation of many needed actors in the public interest potential of IT.
