Answer from Patrick J. Buchanan:
Election Issue
Thank you, Joe, for your question.
While there are many important issues this election, one that stands out is the wholesale surrender of American sovereignty by both political party establishments. Both the Republican and Democratic parties have sold out the American people and workers to global bureaucracies that are elected by no one and responsible only to themselves. We have seen the two major parties relinquish our economic leverage through NAFTA, GATT, the WTO and most recently Permanent Trade Relations with China. We are no longer determining for ourselves the strategic military interests of the United States. Instead, we follow the lead of NATO and the UN. Our workers are losing jobs and our military is being stretched to the point of breaking, while politicians continue to pass along their Constitutional duties to unelected bodies that have no accountability to U.S. voters. Although many Americans decry these actions, their words and pleas are ignored by both Vice President Gore and Governor Bush. Ultimately, the political contributions to our elected officials by global corporations and the business roundtable have overridden the voice of the American majority. This is the primary focus by the Buchanan campaign, although there are many issues that need to be addressed this election year such as immigration reform, campaign finance reform and the sanctity of all human life. We look forward to bringing these issues to the table during the remaining weeks of the election.
