Liberty Of Conscience
There is no constitutional authority for the federal government to fund the promotion of ideas
The Bible says, "Thou shalt not steal," and Thomas Jefferson said, "To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical."
The core of the First Amendment is that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." We have the right in this great country to believe what we wish and to act on what we believe. We have no right whatsoever to compel others to subsidize the propagation of our faith. We cannot properly compel others to furnish taxes to promote our religious beliefs, our educational values, our cultural preferences or our political commitments.
That's why the Constitution Party is committed to closing down the National Endowment for the Arts, the Legal Services Corporation, the Federal Election Commission, and ending subsidies for political candidates. We are committed to ending the Federal role in education. We are committed to ending funding for Planned Parenthood and other groups which promote abortion and subsidies for the homosexual movement in the form of AIDS education.
