Question: Will you keep in effect President Clinton's executive order that eliminated sexual orientation as a reason for denying federal employment?
Submitted from John of Washington, D.C. through Web White & Blue 2000 (10/04/00)

Answer from Howard Phillips:

Affirmative Action for Homosexuals Is Morally Wrong
People who choose to participate in homosexual activity are not entitled to official sanction of their behavior

Absolutely not. I would not keep that Executive Order in effect.

On my very first day in office, I will rescind and revoke all presidential executive orders, and declared states of emergencies which exceed the authority of the President to administer policy decisions enacted by the Congress of the United States. The President is Chief Executive. He's Commander in Chief. He is Chief of State, but he is not Legislator in Chief.

Moreover, the concept of affirmative action for homosexuals is morally wrong and violates the principle of accountability. If a President is to keep his commitments to the American people, and if he agrees with most Americans that homosexuality is conduct to be discouraged rather than the kind of behaviour which receives official support, he must be free to not only not provide affirmative action to persons who engage in homosexual conduct, but to dismiss such persons from the federal service.
