Answer from Al Gore:
The Strongest, Most Ready Fighting Force In The World
I went to Vietnam as an enlisted man,
and although I didn't do the most or face the gravest danger, I was proud to wear my country's uniform. That is why throughout my career in public service, I have worked hard to respect and reward the sacrifice that our nation's military families have made for the good of the country.
Today, our military is the best-trained, best-equipped, most capable fighting force in the world. I will do whatever it takes to back our troops and keep them the strongest, most ready fighting force in the world.
The Administration gave our troops the largest pay raise in 20 years, and I will continue to boost pay and benefits. I will also make sure our military has the most modern weapons today; I won't skip a generation of technology, as my opponent proposes. And I will work to enhance readiness by transforming our military into lighter, more agile forces, improving jointness, and providing the best training available.
To do this, I will invest $100 billion of the surplus over the next ten years into national security, more than twice as much as my opponent.
If I am entrusted with the Presidency, I will always carry with me the experiences of being an enlisted man. I will always remember that our nation rests on the ideals of freedom and democracy that you and your families sacrifice to defend every day, and I will never let you down.
