Question: Did President Clinton commit perjury during the Lewinsky investigation? If you had been in Congress, would you have voted to impeach him? And, most importantly, will you pardon Clinton if you are elected president?

Answer from Patrick J. Buchanan:
Ending The Clinton Era
There is no question in my mind that Mr. Clinton committed perjury...
...before a federal grand jury in both the Lewinsky investigation and the Paula Jones civil law suit. Further, I believe that perjury is an impeachable offense and would have voted in favor of impeachment. I would not pardon Mr. Clinton. He should face the consequences that await him after leaving office.
That being said, the nation should move on and face the issues confronting America and her future. Unlike Governor Bush, I have substantive domestic and foreign policy disagreements with both Mr. Clinton and Vice President Gore. I would prefer to campaign on those issues rather than on "restoring dignity" to the White House. This election is about more than misconduct and scandals. It is about reforming campaign finance, defending our borders, rebuilding our industrial base, protecting the sanctity of human life and the limiting the growth of the federal government. These issues should be in the public debate and Mr. Clinton should be left to deal with his issues out of the public forum.
