Gov. Bush Need To Re-Read The Second Amendment
It is unfortunate that Governor Bush is not familiar with the plain language of the Second Amendment which says,
"the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." It doesn't provide for any exceptions.
One of the most shocking things the Governor had to say during his most recent debate with Al Gore was that he would deny people up to the age of 21 the right to purchase and carry firearms. That's outrageous!
If people are old enough to serve in the Armed Forces, if they are old enough to vote, they should certainly not be denied their constitutional right of self-defense. There are countless examples of families having been protected from the onslaught of vicious criminals because youngsters had been trained in the safe handling of firearms, and were ready to use them in case the family came under attack.
On another issue, Governor Bush seemed thoroughly unaware of the significance of the ENDA legislation that Al Gore has embraced. It is called the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. However, what it really does is discriminate against Christians who, as a matter of religious faith, do not wish to hire practicing homosexuals as employees. The right of free association is guaranteed in the Constitution. I hope that Governor Bush gets up to speed on that and on other issues where his knowledge is de minimus (minimal.)
