Barnstorm for Reform

Bush's Bold Tax Cuts vs. Gore's Fine Print

Texas Governor Offers Tax Reform... Gore Means More Tax Forms

Today, Governor Bush is barnstorming for reform with his fellow 28 Republican governors and he is focusing on the two tax plans voters will decide on this election. Governor's Bush has a vision that all Americans who pay income taxes get tax relief. The surplus isn't the government's money - it's the people's money and he thinks you deserve some of it back.

Al Gore said in his convention speech that only the "right" people deserve tax relief. Governor Bush thinks all American taxpayers are the right people and that's a major difference between Al Gore and Governor Bush.

Take this quiz and see if you will benefit from Gore's tax plan.

  • Do you own hybrid electric/gasoline engine vehicles?
  • Do you drive a car propelled not by gasoline, but by a fuel cell?
  • Do you own a rooftop photovoltaic system?
  • Do you have three or more children and claim the Earned Income Credit?
  • Are you a stay at home mom, and have children under one?
  • Are you part of a family in which both spouses work? Under the Gore plan, you will not get any marriage penalty relief if you take a home mortgage deduction.

You have to meet lots of conditions to get tax relief from Al Gore...

...but with George W. Bush, it's simple and clear.

Take this quiz and see if you will benefit from Governor Bush's tax plan.
Do you pay income taxes? You will all get tax relief.

Do you have a child 16 or younger? Governor Bush will double your child tax credit.

Governor Bush also plans to eliminate the estate tax.

Al Gore speaks in fine print. Remember when the woman in the third presidential debate asked if she'd get a tax cut under his plan? In the next two minutes, he said "if you" eight times. "If you" do this. "If you" do that. It's an "iffy tax scheme" to pay for a big government.

Al Gore has asked Congress to approve funding to hire 2,800 new IRS bureaucrats. And the Gore tax plan is likely to require hundreds more. The next time you hear him talking about his "targeted tax cuts," remember this: Targeted tax cuts mean targeted audits.

Taxes on the American people will be one trillion dollars higher under Al Gore's tax plan than under my plan. That is the annual gross domestic product of China. That is two and a half months of every paycheck in the United States.

There are some differences, some basic choices here: Governor Bush wants Americans to keep that trillion dollars. Al Gore wants government to take it. Governor Bush will give power to taxpayers. Al Gore gives power to tax collectors. Governor Bush's plan means tax reform. Al Gore's plan just means more tax forms.

    Rebuttal from Harry Browne:

Bush's Tax Cut - No Big Deal.
George Bush protests too much when he complains that Al Gore uses 'fuzzy math' or 'invented the calculator'.

For Bush to pretend that his proposal provides real tax relief to millions of Americans is like pretending Republicans will actually reduce the size of government. Alas, they are pretending that they will provide smaller government.

But the facts speak for themselves. The Bush budget increases federal government spending, just like he did in Texas. It's all part of a GOP pattern. The Republican Congress increased spending for the past five years. So too did George Bush Sr. and Ronald Reagan before that.

Ask yourself some serious questions. Who is going to pay for the increased Republican spending? Will it be the Russians - the Martians perhaps? If there is no reduction in government spending, then where pray-tell will George Bush and the Republicans get the money to fund their do-nothing tax cut?

I am the only candidate in this race proposing a dramatic reduction in government spending. I'm the only candidate with a long list of unconstitutional agencies and programs that I will cut.

And I will do so to provide you with the most significant tax cut ever. I will end the Income Tax completely, and replace it with nothing. That's $1 trillion dollars that the federal government won't be stealing from the economy any longer - enough to create a job for everyone who can work and charity for those who can't.

So throw away the Bush calculator! With my plan the formula is simple {your income} X 0% = NO MORE INCOME TAX.

Do you want smaller government? When do you want it? You can't get it voting for a candidate who's not even proposing it. You won't get it by voting Republican. You must vote Libertarian.
