Latinos for Bush-Cheney

bottom
Question: What specific standards will you use in selecting Supreme Court nominees? What are the most pressing issues the Court will deal with in the next 30 years, and how will they influence your choices? Will you put a Latino on the Supreme Court?
Submitted from Jennifer of Port Arthur, Texas through washingtonpost.com (10/29/00)

Answer from George W. Bush:

Strict Interpretation Of The Constitution
I will appoint judges who have a judicial temperament, who share my conservative philosophy...

...and who will strictly interpret the Constitution rather than legislating from the bench.

As Governor, I've appointed men and women of character to numerous state courts, including four -- Al Gonzales, Greg Abbott, Deborah Hankinson, and James Baker -- to the state Supreme Court. I'm proud that of the roughly 3,000 individuals I appointed to state boards, commissions, and courts, 52% are minorities or women.
