Policy for a Networked Society: IT For Development

Benton Foundation
Date Initiated: March 2001

Markle supported the Benton Foundation in developing OneWorld US, the United States-based website for one of the largest international networks devoted to sustainable development and human rights. OneWorld US enhanced the knowledge of U.S. citizens about international affairs and development issues. Markle assisted OneWorld US in developing resources including: a discussion platform for NGOs regarding best practices and lessons learned regarding global digital divide issues; a "channel" on the OneWorld site dedicated exclusively to global digital divide efforts; and a set of open source tools that helped other countries to develop their own digital divide networks.
