In a recent Pew Internet Project survey, it was found that four in five Internet users have used the Web to find health care information. Among these users, women were the most frequent seekers of health care information and most often looking in to specific diseases and treatments. The survey found that 66% of Internet users have searched for information regarding certain diseases or medical problems.

Milt Freudenheim, a writer for The New York Times' Prescriptions Blog, goes in to further detail about the findings of this survey.
