I was critical of what I saw as television's inadequate record in the previous quarter century, but 1969 was a time of optimism and I shared that optimism.
In this essay, former Markle president Lloyd N. Morrisett looked back at the growth of children's educational programming in broadcast television and the development of cable television since 1969. Although by 1981 there had been some improvement in children's television, Morrisett found the programs lacking, and he discussed what could happen if a children's pay television service were developed.
