    About the Rework America Alliance

    In response to the devastating impact of the pandemic, Markle launched the Rework America Alliance a nationwide collaboration of employers, non-profits, educators, government entities, and public and private organizations. The Alliance is working to open opportunities for millions of unemployed and low wage workers to move into good jobs, particularly people of color who have been disproportionately impacted by the current economic crisis. Partners include National Urban League, NAACP, Unidos US, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Google, IBM, Microsoft, McKinsey & Company, North America’s Building Trades Unions, Workday and other leading businesses, labor unions, training, and workforce organizations.     The Rework America Alliance builds on Markle’s previous work in this field. In 2013, Markle launched its Rework America initiative to help workers have greater market power and a stronger voice in decisions that impact their lives. The Rework America Task Force was focused on how to create more good jobs and how to prepare people for them, publishing the Norton press book America’s Moment in 2015.

    This work inspired the development of Markle’s Skillful initiative in 2016 in Colorado - which expanded to Indiana in 2018. Skillful has now transitioned into Markle’s Rework America Alliance. Skillful is contributing resources to the Alliance as it aims to help unemployed people across the country return to the workforce in better jobs with greater career potential.

     

    About the Role

    *This is a project-based role with an initial term of one year and potential opportunity for extension.
    We are looking for hard-working, dynamic team members who are passionate about making an impact on and serving the community. Given the entrepreneurial nature of our work, all team members execute a diverse portfolio of projects and contribute to the learning culture through execution of pilots, supporting multiple initiatives and collaborating across teams and partner organizations. This position will be supporting the Career Coaching team’s expansion of programming into new states, project management functions of a Learning and Employment Record (LER) project based in Indiana, and working on the development of programmatic solutions, trainings, and resources designed to support career coaches connecting job seekers to good jobs.

     

    Job Summary and Responsibilities

    The Associate, Career Coaching initiatives will assist with the day-to-day execution of programmatic activities within the Career Coaching portfolio, specifically: state related delivery of coaching programs and the learning and employment record. This person should have an interest in exploring barriers to education completion and connection to employment, credential transparency, skills-based practices for employers and career coaches, racial equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the workforce and education systems. All projects will include relationship development and collaboration with a variety of internal and external partners. As is true of all Markle team members, applicants to this position should feel comfortable wearing many hats and bearing responsibility to carry out a variety of projects across Alliance.

     

    Project Management

    • With strategic guidance from a supervisor, take the lead on project execution by developing, tracking, and following-through on operational and work plans.
    • Curate clear action steps for external and internal partners that will encourage forward momentum and hold partners accountable for the quality and timeliness of deliverables.
    • In alignment with the team’s objectives, ensure that racial equity, diversity, and inclusion training and resources are integrated into all career coaching programs delivered to partners.
    • Support team communication, goals, and tasks through the use of project management digital tools such as Asana and Microsoft Teams.
    • Flag critical issues for problem solving or troubleshooting.
    • Provide event support as needed.

     

    Research and Analysis

    • Research topic areas related to assigned projects within the coaching or LER initiatives.
    • Assist with the preparation and analysis of insights from research.
    • Conduct research and prepare recommendations for the improvement of existing / implementation of new procedures and tools.
    • Identify and evaluate opportunities for Skillful programming.
    • Test new tools and materials with coaches and their organizations, higher education, and other partners and gather feedback points to improve offerings.
    • Make recommendations to leadership and provide supporting evidence based on research.

     

    Communications

    • Communicate with external partners to organize meetings, request/provide information, and further develop relationships.
    • Assist with drafts and execution documents for external use (for example, for partners and key meetings) and for internal use (by Markle leadership and for the Board of Directors).
    • Assist with document management processes across partners and industries to ensure quality control and historical archiving, e.g., of document versions and data collected.

     

    Other Duties

    • This position requires wearing many hats and bearing responsibility to carry out a variety of projects across the organization. This may entail providing support to peers in other work streams, Skillful, and Markle initiatives.

    • Term: Full-time, one year term with potential opportunity for extension
    • Salary & Benefits: $55,000-$75,000 base salary (depending on location and skill level), with generous benefits such as healthcare, retirement, and time off including parental leave.
    • Travel: Ability to travel within Indiana and willingness to travel out of state when permissible due to current ongoing pandemic.
