A program designed to promote job growth and new connections between educators and employers could soon expand to other states.

Former acting Office of Personnel Management Director Beth Cobert was named the chief executive officer of the Markle Foundation initiative dubbed Skillful on Monday. The initiative, which focuses on using data tools to support job growth, connecting educators and employers, and promoting skills-based hiring practices, is partnered with LinkedIn and the State of Colorado.

The effort could expand to other states, organizers say.

“Too many Americans have been shut out as traditional categories of employment and ways of getting training have evolved,” Cobert said in a press release. “I cannot think of a more pressing challenge than helping Americans acquire the skills they need to compete in today’s workplace.”
