The Partnership for Public Service discusses the vast potential of the blue button concept that focuses on getting health information into the hands of consumers.  Unlike electronic medical records, owned and controlled by doctors, the blue button offers personal health records that are owned and controlled by the individual allowing them to take their records from doctor to doctor.

This development is currently available to veterans through the myhealth.va.gov website where they can print copies or download digital files of their personal health data.
