Markle Connecting for Health Collaborators state the importance of identifying clear health priorities and goals for the National Health Care Quality Strategy and Plan. The group affirms the critical role for health goals in a letter to Secretary Sebelius written in response to a request for public input from the US Department of Health and Human Services on the development of a National Health Care Quality Strategy and Plan.

The group encourages HHS to leverage criteria set forth in health reform for identifying health priorities, to make sure the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) investments are strategically integrated with health reform, and to provide the nation with a clear understanding how these complex laws will unequivocally aim for specific improvements in the health and wellbeing of people in this country.
